My name is Florencia - I am your typical 20 something year old, (almost 30, shh!!) who is always looking for an adventure, an excuse to do something fun with those closest to me. I was born in the little country of Uruguay in South America and moved to The States in my early teens where I soon discovered that the world was a lot bigger than I had and could have ever imagined. I was blessed to live in South Florida, an area of the country not only known for its beautiful weather and beaches, but also for being at the crossroads of Latin America and the rest of the world. From a young age, I was introduced to different cultures and traditions, people from different nations and all walks of life. Deep down inside, I know that this was the precursor that would lead me to take advantage of any free time in my now adult life to travel, and to dream of one day traveling the world.
As I was finishing my adolescence, I moved to Indiana where I pursued a degree in journalism, dreaming of one day becoming anything close to Christiane Amanpoure. One thing led to another, and that would-be career in journalism suddenly became an internship as an interpretation ranger at Rocky Mountain National Park, as a digital marketing sales rep in San Francisco, and now, as Communication Strategist at a maritime shipping company.
I consider myself a sometimes-extrovert because I love to share my time with friends and family but I also just love to put on some music and relax at home with a good book. Some of my favorite things in life include wine pairings with cheese and honey, fresh-cut flowers, a good-singalong-driving playlist, finding a good book to not put down, and returning from a long trip and smelling that “feels like home” smell. The very first country I ever visited was Chile, and the farthest I’ve ever gone was New Zealand. It’s fair to say I always try to make little vacations every time I can. I am very lucky to have had jobs that allow me to travel – in three years I got to visit 4 new countries, and my 5th later this week. I know I still have SO MUCH more to see and I am beyond excited to keep planning my next adventures. When I know I’ll be visiting a new city or country, I go a little overboard with the research. I like to find as much information as possible and plan activities and sights to see. This is how This Giant World was born. I wanted to compile my findings and experiences into one place. After reading Gretchen Rubin’s “The Happiness Project” I knew I wanted to start my own blog.
One thing is for certain, life is full of surprises and we never know what will become of it. I look at my adventures the same way. I have ideas, desires of visiting new places all the time. Quite often thinking that I know what to expect but finding myself happily surprised when I find hidden gems in my adventures. I want to share these with you! Often, we create preconceptions of what places are like, creating itineraries with our must-sees (often mainstream things which you must definitely see if you haven’t before), but miss out on so many other jewels off the beaten path. I want to share with you these hidden rarities, localities’ hidden gems, that I guarantee will put that + on your A trip.
Thank you for reading along and following my story!
